Really Cool DIY Night Lights

Seasons greetings to everyone, In the spirit of sharing I thought I would give some ideas on simple science projects that could be used as decorations in the dark.

we are going to give you all kinds of really neat science experiments and activities. That your kids will really love exploring colored water and oil, but a surprise ingredient will make this experiment even more exciting.

You guys can do it  several times and with all different colors, you will be shocked how log they engage with them.

STORM IN A JAR

This is by far my favorite and can turn out better than you would have hoped for. Let’s get started.

Materials

  • A glass or jar
  • Shaving cream
  • Glow in the dark or neon paint
  • Water
  • Pipettes
  • Cups or bowls

Set up for this experiment is pretty simple.  To make your “glowing rain” add a tiny amount of glowing paint to a cup ( preferably a transparent container,if you don’t want it being mistaken for a drink).  Fill 3/4 of the cup with warm water and stir until the paint dissolves.  Repeat the above steps for each color of glowing “rain” and “lightning” that you wish to make. Then spray shave cream over the water and inject glow in the dark paint . Wait for it to get dark and be amazed, do it well and it will look like the nights sky

WATER OIL EXPERIMENT
This is also very cool and will no doubt be a very beautiful beside lava lamp

  • Baby oil
  • A pie pan or clear container
  • Pipettes
  • Neon Paint
  • Small bowls
  • Water

Begin by filling a dish or container with baby oil.  Set this aside.

Making the glowing water colors
Add a teaspoon of glowing paint to a bowl, using one bowl for each color of glowing water that you wish to make.
Fill the bowls with very warm water and mix until the paints dissolve into the water.
You will now have a variety of glowing waters to use for this experiment!

Have children use a pipette or small straw to drop the colorful waters into their container of oil
As you drop the water into the oil the water will bead up and create beautiful effects
No matter how much colored water is added the oil and water will not mix!  Isn’t that cool science?
